Two Microphone Types, One Receiver

Combination sets run two different microphone types through a single receiver. The most common configuration pairs a handheld microphone with a lavalier or headset.

Here is why that works: most venues have two different needs at the same time. The moderator stays in one place and wants their hands free, while the speaker uses a handheld at the lectern. Rather than buying two separate single-channel sets, one combination set costs less and takes up less rack space.

When to Choose a Combination Set — and When Not To

  • A combination set makes sense when two channels are enough and both microphones are used in the same room, within reasonable distance of each other.
  • Separate sets make sense when the microphones will be used in different rooms, or when you need to expand channel count independently later.

The practical limitation of a single receiver is this: because both channels are tied to one unit, the microphones have to be used in the same space. In multi-hall venues that sometimes becomes a problem.

Installation and Space Savings

Rack space is worth more in fixed installations than people expect. Using one unit instead of two separate receivers saves on shelf space, cabling and the number of outlets required. As a system grows in a venue or conference hall, that difference adds up.

What We Look at When Selecting

First we establish which two types you actually need together. Handheld plus lavalier is the most common pairing, but in training-focused venues handheld plus headset is often the better combination. Then we set range and frequency plan according to the size of the room.

If you expect to expand the system later, choosing a range that accepts individual receivers and transmitters gives you more flexibility over time.

How We Work

We start with how the room is used, how many people will speak at once and what audio infrastructure you already have. We tell you plainly whether a combination set or two separate sets is the right answer, and show the cost difference side by side. Installation, frequency planning and user training are included in handover.
